The Centre offers modern Greek language courses of longer and shorter duration, from beginning through advanced levels, to adults of all nationalities. New classes are offered every month on a year-round basis. Participants in the language classes come from all over the world, including all the EU countries, North and South America, and other places.
In affiliation with selected American and Canadian colleges and universities, the Centre coordinates semester programs emphasizing ancient Greece, Byzantine civilization and modern Greek studies. The Centre acts as a “campus in Greece” for these universities, and supplies complete support facilities in Athens, including classrooms, student and faculty housing, field trips and other services.
In addition to the Semester and Quarter programs, the Centre works with more than 20 colleges and universities in offering shorter term programs throughout the year, including Maymesters, January terms, summer sessions, spring and fall break programs, and summer workshops of art, poetry and theatre. Three week poetry and art workshops are conducted at the Centre every summer. Participants can gain university credit for the workshops, and teachers can use them to support their continuing accreditation in the U.S. A Play Writing program will be initiated in the summer of 2012.
The Centre sponsors regularly scheduled evenings of poetry readings, theatre productions, exhibits, gallery walks, film evenings and other cultural events which are open to Athens Centre students and friends, and interested members of the public.
