Syllabus level IV


Continuation of Greek grammar. Review of previously taught main grammar areas. Emphasis on conversational topics oriented to daily life. Reading and writing to more advanced levels.

TEXTBOOK: Δ. Δημητρά – Μ. Παπαχειμώνα, ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ ΤΩΡΑ 2+2, Chapters 1 –6.

The syllabus can be modified according to the needs of the class.

Grammar (with exercises) appears on separate pages. Note: Use the Greek-English/ English-Greek vocabulary (p. 288-319), grammatical terms (p.277-278), the list of verbs in Present Tense, Simple Past, Future (p. 249-267) as well as the grammar rules (p.207-226 and 229-248) at the back of the book.

Main Grammar areas

Verbs: Passive voice. Formation and use. Conjugation A, B1 verbs. Review of all known tenses and Imperative (Προστακτική), Participle (Μετοχή) Future Perfect (Συντελεσμένος Μέλλοντας). Active and Passive construction. Linking verbs (as φαίνομαι). Deponent verbs (as εργάζομαι). Conditional sentences.

Nouns: Masculine in –ης/-ηδες, -ας/-αδες (as μανάβης, μπαμπάς) etc.

In –ης/-εις (as συγγενής), -εας/-εις (as συγγραφέας). Feminine in  -α/-αδες (as γιαγιά)


-ης, -ης, -ες (as ακριβής) and their adverbs in –ως (as ακριβώς)

-υς, -ια, -υ  (as βαθύς) and their adverbs in –ια (as βαθιά)

-ης, -ια, -ι   (as θαλασσής)

Comparative and Superlative degree (as βαθύτερος, ακριβέστερος) etc.

Adverbs: time, manner, place, quantity etc.

Conjunctions: (αφού, μέχρι) etc. Conjunctions with Υποτακτική (πριν φύγω)etc.

Pronouns: personal, possessive, interrogative.

Numbers: ordinal, cardinal and their declension.

Main conversation/vocabulary areas

Various conversation topics appear with each Text, each Dialogue, the Detective Story and the Listening

Comprehension Exercises.

Also topics for practice in writing (guided compositions, summaries, creative writing)

At this level, each student should choose topics and prepare oral presentations.

More acquaintance with newspaper language.
