Stories from Greek Libraries, Refugees and Other Communities

Stories from Greek Libraries, Refugees and Other Communities: A Work in Progress

Wednesday, October 24
7.00 pm

After spending two months photographing throughout Greece with his wife Ellen Manchester, Dawson will share his insights into Greek libraries, education and culture. What is the nature of libraries here and what can they tell us about Greece today? Dawson’s photographs explore the relationship of libraries to the refugee crisis, ‘bibliocide’ or the intentional or accidental destruction of books, memory and a sense of place.
About the lecturer:
Robert Dawson is an author, photographer and Stanford University professor. He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship and is now in Greece on a Fulbright Global Scholar Fellowship. He has published numerous books including most recently »The Public Library: A Photographic Essay».
